Cyberattack shuts down Pellissippi State networks during finals week

A cyberattack has shut down online network connections for all Pellissippi State Community College campuses, according to a statement from the college. The community college on Tuesday confirmed the ransomware attack. The incident has been contained, according to the statement, and the college is working to get its computer systems operational as soon as possible. It's finals week at Pellissippi State, and the cyberattack has made it difficult for students to take online exams. In-person exams are continuing as scheduled. There's no estimate on when the issue will be solved, Kellie Toon, Pellissippi State vice president for academic affairs, said in a faculty senate meeting on Tuesday. Pellissippi State is working with law enforcement and computer forensics experts to investigate the attack, according to the statement. "What I can say is that this is not going to be a quick fix," Toon said. "There have been other schools hit and just by all indications in can take months to rebuild it. We can rebuild it, we will rebuild it ... but it's going to take time.
